Duties and Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with students, face to face and virtually, in order to provide academic advising, counseling and to discuss their academic progress.
Interview students and determine need for instructional support services; research as necessary.
Monitor student’s progress and GPA.
Advise undergraduate and graduate students each semester to provide guidance in course selection, address questions and offer information as necessary including the Webster registration process.
Develop and continually update advising materials to facilitate the orientation, advising, and registration process for new and continuing graduate and undergraduate students.
Ensure that students are meeting prerequisites.
Maintain all program documents in designated physical and electronic files.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of every student interaction including in-person visits, phone consultations, internet correspondences and any other communications.
Stay abreast of current issues and trends among identified student population related to college student’s academic success and retention through active professional development.
Assist with university and College of Business orientation and recruiting events as needed.
Develop positive working relationships with AUM faculty and staff in order to serve as an advocate for our students.
Other duties that may arise related to the Advising Office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of assigned program or function.
Knowledge of functions, operations, and/or maintenance of equipment being used
Knowledge of acceptable advising and/or recruiting techniques and practices
Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations.
Skill in making written and oral presentations; interpersonal skills
Ability to advise students
Ability to evaluate student performance and measure progress
Ability to advise and relate to a varied international student population.
Ability to balance multiple projects.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with all student interactions and records.
Skilled in using BANNER, Argos, AdvisorTrac, Xtender, Excel, Word, Outlook, Publisher, Adobe, PDF, and OneNote.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in a Business-related discipline, Education, Counseling, Psychology or related field.
Masters degree preferred.
