This position is open to undergraduate students only.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Peer Advisors are undergraduate students who assist other students with processes related to academic advising through teaching, support, and resource management.
Peer Advisors report to the Associate Director of Central Advising.
As a requirement of employment, Peer Advisors must sign a written agreement to:
• Maintain confidentiality at all times
• Commit to learning the art of advising in relation to duties as a peer advisor
• Be sensitive to the uniqueness of situations, as well as to the individual(s) involved
• Maintain professionalism in attitude, image, and interactions
• Commit to partnering with all Central Advising staff and other peer advisors
• Refrain from using office equipment for personal use
• Participate in the feedback process
• Be in the designated place at the designated time for all scheduled activities
During Orientation, peer advisors will:
• Assist with the setup and breakdown of Central Advising stations for browse sessions
• Actively participate in browse sessions and/or presentations and provide excellent customer service and accurate academic resource information
• Attend the advising session and provide proactive assistance to incoming students during the registration process
During the academic year, peer advisors will:
• Provide walk-in peer advising assistance in the Office of Central Advising
• Provide general information to students regarding campus resources, academic programs and degrees, and advising processes
• Create materials to help students understand advising processes and present on topics related to academic advising
• Support the Central Advising staff with advising events and Pre-Registration Education Planning (PREP) initiatives
• Teach students how to access, navigate, and use the MyAUM Portal, Warhawk Self-Service (Webster), Degree Works, AUM email, university website, etc,
• Assist students with identifying and locating campus resources and demonstrate how to seek help/find information
• Refer students to their academic advisor and/or campus resource offices in accordance with their needs
Qualifications:
Current AUM undergraduate student with a 3.
0 GPA minimum.
Must have 24 hours of credit and a clear judicial record upon and throughout employment.
Students with strong verbal and written communication skills and who understand the course registration process are encouraged to apply.
