The Manager, Advanced Technology Research will be focusing on water heating and air conditioning systems and applications, responsible for development and management of the technology portfolio of Rheem.
The position leads advanced research and technology validation teams in the process of applied research and technology development, demonstrating new or unproven technologies, planning the application of existing technology to new or different uses, or the combination of existing and proven technology to achieve business goals.
Serving as the Technology Leader of the organization, this position ensures effective use of department’s dedicated budget to fuel its operations in Advanced Technology Research, University Research Partnerships, fast prototyping, design sprints, modeling, and development testing activities, outside engineering firms, and in-house and outsourced laboratories.
This position will serve our Water Heater Division , located in Roswell, GA , Ft.
Smith AR , or Lewisville TX .
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Management of technology development roadmap, alignment of plans and applied research to company strategic initiatives, progression of feasibility assessments and readiness and the translation of technologies into the company stage gate development process.
• Direct team of research engineers in the exploration of technology, supervise the operations of advanced labs
• Manage execution and communication of Agile Technology Development Processes, Design and Prototype Build Sprints to advance company learnings and strategic planning.
• Manage IP Portfolio processing with Rheem Legal to ensure timely protection of company assets.
• Establish and maintain liaison with industry associations, outreach to external research laboratories and universities, regulatory agencies, and outside vendors in order to engage and remain abreast of technical advancements within relevant industries.
• Disseminate discoveries and/or learnings, periodically host training sessions and practicums among the company engineering community for the advancement of awareness and knowledge sharing.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering
• 7 years of related managerial experience
• Deep engineering foundation and applied scientific depth in heat transfer, combustion, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, strengths of materials, structural analysis, vapor compression, material sciences, and CAE
• Experience in design and manufacturing of commercial appliance with demonstrated ability to manage product development projects.
• Must have a proven track record of project related success and exhibiting innovative curiosity in pursuit of continual product development improvements.
• Strong organizational, problem solving, resources management and time management skills.
• Demonstrated strength in critical thinking, good logic and reasoning skills to identify weaknesses and strengths of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
• Strong team building skills with excellent communications skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to serve as a mentor and coach to the engineering staff, as well as a “business partner”

HOW TO STAND OUT
• PhD in Engineering.
• Progressive experience and leadership in the commercial development and application of water heating, air conditioning, pool heating, or commercial refrigeration systems.
• Professional Engineering License preferred
• Prior experience with both water heating and air conditioning product development
