Job Summary:
A Dietary Aide in a nursing home is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to
residents, ensuring their dietary requirements are met, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen
environment.
Key Responsibilities:
● Meal Preparation: Assist in the preparation of meals following prescribed recipes and dietary
guidelines, taking into account residents' special dietary needs, allergies, and restrictions.
● Food Service: Serve meals to residents in a courteous and respectful manner, adhering to
portion control guidelines.
● Dietary Assistance: Ensure that each resident receives the correct meal according to their dietary
plan, which may include regular, pureed, modified texture, or therapeutic diets.
● Hydration Support: Assist residents with beverage service, ensuring they have access to water
and other drinks as needed.
● Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining areas, including
dishwashing, cleaning surfaces, and following food safety guidelines.
● Stocking and Inventory: Assist in stocking food and supplies, monitor inventory levels, and notify
the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
● Documentation: Record food and beverage intake for residents as required, and report any
concerns or issues to the dietary supervisor or nurse.
● Assistance to Cooks: Support cooks in food preparation, including chopping, slicing, and other
kitchen tasks.
● Special Diets: Assist in the preparation of special dietary items, such as thickened liquids or
pureed foods, for residents with swallowing difficulties.
● Patient Interaction: Interact with residents in a compassionate and respectful manner,
addressing any questions or concerns they may have related to meals.
● Compliance: Follow all facility policies and procedures related to food service, infection control,
and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Dietary Aide or Food Service Worker, is beneficial
but not always required.
● Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
● Compassion and patience when interacting with elderly residents.
● Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions from dietary supervisors.
● Strong communication skills.
● Willingness to learn and adapt to the dietary needs of residents.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $10.
