The Instructional Designer position with Troy Online is located in Troy, Alabama and is responsible for the following job duties:
-Coordinates all activities for instructional course development and design and educational technologies within the administration of Troy Online in accordance with procedures, standards, and directives promulgated by appropriate University academic and administrative personnel.
-Responsible distance learning faculty support as assigned by Associate Vice Chancellor of Online Education (AVC).
-Accepts input and suggestions for academic improvements for distance learning course design development from the appropriate committees, chairpersons, the Deans, faculty and AVC.
-Attends various academic and administrative meetings for Troy University.
Serves on campus committees as appointed.
-Coordinates and teaches in Troy University organizations, workshops, committees and conferences designed to promote best practices in distance learning for instructional design.
-Coordinates processes and procedures to determine if program objectives are being met.
-Meets with individual faculty or groups of faculty, face to face or by digital conference tools, as necessary.
-Assists faculty with the development online courses that result in a high-quality and engaging learning experience for Troy University students.
-Collaborates with faculty/instructors to create courses that are instructionally sound, use instructional technologies effectively, use multi-media effectively, incorporate appropriate third party and open source content, and meet established quality/regulatory standards.
-Provides consultation and support for the instructional design and development of online programs and courses, with a focus on student-centered learning, research informed curriculum, instruction and assessment.
-Works collaboratively with other Instructional Designers and the Faculty Development Coordinators to support the instructional design needs of a college’s online programs and courses.
-Researches, creates and implements innovative instructional strategies in collaboration with the Instructional Design Team, Troy faculty and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, curriculum design or related field
Minimum of three years of experience related to the field of instructional design or an equivalent combination of related education, training and/or experience
Experience in partnering with university faculty or content experts in creating, maintaining, revising and evaluating courses, including web enhanced, blended and online, by using research-informed instructional techniques and technologies
Experience with the use of instructional technologies such as web-conferencing, Turnitin, video content creation, MS Office applications, graphic content creation, LMS – Canvas, Photoshop, and Camtasia
Expertise in the science of teaching and learning and application of appropriate technologies to foster better learning
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum design or closely related field
Three or more years experience in the field of instructional design in a higher education setting
Experience with course delivery methods and pedagogy for the ‘today’ learner
Experience working with faculty in higher education
Knowledge of best practices in design such as Quality Matters or the Online Course Quality Review Rubric
